Research

Dr. Fortier is dedicated to working with children with chronic pain. She is currently researching the management of pediatric pain with special focus on parents in the home setting as a principal investigator in the American Pain Society Future Leaders in Pain Small Research Grants Program. The goal of the study is to incorporate health information technology into pain management by developing a web-based program for caregivers managing children’s pain after surgery. Through the Hoag Foundation Career Development Award, Dr. Fortier is working to develop and pilot an electronic decision-support pain management protocol for children undergoing cancer treatment. In addition, Dr. Fortier is co-principal investigator in a grant project through the Children’s Miracle Network entitled Managing Neonatal Pain and Distress: The Next Frontier. Her project aims to identify the frequency of painful procedures undergone by neonates in the NICU and introduce an intervention to structure procedures to allow for periods of rest and recovery for newborns.

Dr. Fortier has coauthored more 50 national and international presentations, book chapters, and peer reviewed publications.
