Dr. Heather Hawthorne is a pediatric oncologist with CHOC Children’s Specialists. Hawthorne’s major research interests include morbidity and mortality of cancer and cancer treatment in adolescents and young adults, the late effects of chemotherapy and cancer treatment, including the long-term care of cancer patients, and medical education, including teaching skills for residents and fellows. She has given oral presentations on numerous topics including leukemia and treatment-associated morbidities and complications among adolescents and young adults with cancer.
Dr. Hawthorne is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric hematology/oncology. Prior to joining CHOC Children’s, Dr. Hawthorne attended medical school at University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. She served her residency training in internal medicine and pediatrics at Greenville Hospital System, University Medical Center, University of South Carolina and completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at University of Alabama in Birmingham. Dr. Hawthorne received her master’s degree of public health in epidemiology at University of Alabama.
